About Pre-Hire Training for People with Disabilities

Standards

Here are the standards that apply in hiring decisions.  The trainee must rate a “yes” on all six questions:

  1. Has the trainee learned the primary skills and abilities required by the position?
    To rate a “yes”: The trainee correctly performs the required job tasks.  If the job requires exception handling or decision making, the trainee knows what to do and does it correctly.
  2. Does the trainee act in an acceptable manner with management, team members, and support staff?
    To rate a “yes”:  The trainee is cooperative and respectful and avoids any hostile or threatening behaviors.  It is not necessary for the person to be social.
  3. Has the trainee reached an acceptable level of productivity?
    To rate a “yes”: The trainee has achieved the required productivity rate for the last two weeks.
  4. Has the trainee reached an acceptable level of accuracy?
    To rate a “yes”: The trainee’s accuracy is within the acceptable range for team members.
  5. Does the trainee follow instructions and established work rules and procedures, including those related to safety?
    To rate a “yes”: The trainee:
    • was not responsible for any accidents that caused injury or serious damage;
    • was not responsible for any preventable (minor) accidents after the first two weeks of training;
    • had no incidents of misconduct serious enough to warrant immediate dismissal;
    • had no disciplinary incidents in the last two weeks.
  6. Has the trainee’s attendance been satisfactory?
    To rate a “yes”: The trainee:
    • had no absences in the last month except for illness or death in family.
      If there was an absence during this period, the trainee must have called in to report it.  The job coach, school/agency should be able to confirm that the reason for missing work was justified.
    • had one or no tardies in the last month unless the job coach confirms that circumstances were beyond trainee ’s control (e.g. The job coach providing transportation was late.)
